You have many decisions to make. Make it
easier by getting organized.
- Prepare a master checklist.
- Set up a file folder for each major
item on your list.
As you make decisions and talk with service
providers, you will be able to catalog the information for easy retrieval.
Before contacting service providers, you will
need to:
- Set the date and time.
- Choose the kind of wedding you will
have.
- Decide where you will have the
wedding.
- Plan the reception--location, menu,
music, master of ceremonies.
- Discuss the budget.
- Consider hiring a wedding coordinator.
- Reserve the wedding and reception locations.
You will also need to:
- Select your wedding dress, veil and accessories.
- Choose the wedding attendants: bridesmaids, groomsmen, ushers, and
honored roles.
- Send announcements of your engagement to
local and hometown newspapers.
- Discuss the guest list with fiancé and families.
- Discuss honeymoon and reservations.
- Arrange for wedding transportation
4-6 Months
- Select and register wedding gifts and patterns.
- Order bridesmaids' dresses, shoes and accessories.
- Contact men's formal wear specialist for men's
attire.
- Order invitations, announcements,
programs and personal stationery.
- Provide all service providers with
excellent maps and directions to church
and wedding facility.
2 Months
- Order wedding bands.
- Order wedding cake.
- Check state and county marriage license
requirements--usually at the Clerk of Court's office at your county
seat.
- Plan ceremony and reception.
- Plan rehearsal dinner, usually the
responsibility of the groom's parents.
- Complete guest list and address invitations.
- Purchase gifts for attendants.
1 Month
- Make a checklist of last things to do--pick
up tickets, check reservations, make certain key people will be in place at
the appropriate time--photographer, chauffeur, wedding attendants, etc.
- Arrange for lodging for out of town guests
- Make final arrangements with florist
- Plan honeymoon wardrobe
1 Week
Hope for the best but plan for the unexpected:
- Go over checklist.
- People assigned to tasks should function as a
team. Make certain everyone knows what is expected.
- Prepare an emergency kit to take to wedding
and reception: make-up, hairbrushes, hairspray, aspirin, Tums,
blowdryer--for spills as well as hair, safety pins, hairpins, tape, etc.
The Day of the Event
- Go over your checklist.
- Relax. Turn everything over to those
assigned. Enjoy.
